2004 Virginia Region Disciples Men
Retreat

Thoughts from some of the men who attended the 2004 retreat... I think Bill dealt with what we
asked him to deal with…spiritual growth. In order for there to be
spiritual growth, there's got to be communication between the creator and
creation. I think Bill used some good illustrations of humans' struggle with
speaking to God and listening to God throughout scripture. The most
practical thing I brought home with me had to be the principle of "give
us this day!"
I think I learned so many
powerful things at the retreat, for example, how to pray and the importance
of forgiveness. However, I guess the one thing I will try and incorporate in
my life is to hear "The voice" and not my voice.
I feel that we men who attended
this retreat were greatly inspired by the message we received from Rev. Bill
Lee. I hope that we all will listen more closely for the voice of God, and
that we will be obedient and do the things we are called upon to do. One
statement he made that impressed me was "Is it more comfortable to
watch our Church die, or become involved in helping to save it?"
My two cents…enjoyed
fellowship with 63 men who took time out of their weekend to worship and
praise God together.
One of the most important
revelations that I walked away with from the retreat, were the profound
words of Bill talking about the Holy Spirit. When contemplating and in
prayer, are we listening to "a voice" or "The Voice."
There IS a difference! "The Voice" of God or "a voice"
from our own ego, those around us, and those voices around us that distract
us from doing God's work.
The Wakefield Retreat was a
positive step forward for the Disciple's Men work of Virginia. The thoughts
and discussions from the men about their own personal spiritual journey and
their efforts to be more like Jesus was wonderful. Bill Lee, as our leader,
helped the men to "dig a little deeper" into their spiritual life. |
